The Porsche Design Acer Book RS brings sports-car flair to a laptop - baileyjakfam
Acer
The Porsche Invention Acer Word RS is a beautiful laptop with a good deal equitation on its slim shoulders. With a name like that (Porsche Design is owned aside the indistinguishable parent company as automaker Porsche Ag), it is of course expected to combine performance on with style. The lofty prices—$1,400 for the base model and $2,000 for the "premium package"—also carry whatsoever pressure to deliver. Will this product rise to defend its good name? Partner Acer's considerable skill at fashioning laptops is a solid starting point.
Announced Wednesday and available in December, the Porsche Design Acer Book RS does appear to bring sports-elevator car flair. The lid for its 14-inch display is made of 3k carbon character for lightness as advantageously as aesthetics. The all-metal, CNC-machined soma has diamond-cut edges, an accent mostly reserved for other premium products care the HP Spectre x360 14.
Acer The Porsche Design Genus Acer Book RS has an all-metal, diamond-trim back shape.
The glasses are what I'd call high schoo-end mainstream rather than performance-oriented—this is not a gaming laptop—but within that context they'ray largely skilful:
- CPU: Intel Core i5-1135G7 or Gist i7-1165G7
- Memory: 8GB or 16GB of dual-canal LPDDR4X SDRAM
- Entrepot: 512GB or 1TB of PCIe 3 NVMe SSD
- Display: 14-in, 16:9 FHD IPS with 100 percentage sRGB color gamut, Corning Anti-Microbic Gorilla Glass, and 340-nit upper limit brightness
- Graphics: Intel Iris Xe integrated, operating theater optional Nvidia GeForce MX350 GPU
- Connectivity: Two SuperSpeed USB 10Gbps A, one Thunderbolt 4, HDMI, headphone seaman
- Networking: Badger State-Fi6 (Gig+)
- Dimensions: 12.52 x 8.24 0.63 inches
- Weight: 2.65 pounds
A few details of the configuration surprised me by their un-Porsche-look-alike quaintness. The display's 16:9 aspect ratio has been the emblematic spec for some geezerhood, but we're seeing the highest-end laptops with which the Book RS will vie, like the Dell XPS and the HP Spectre, move toward a practically more productiveness-disposed 3:2 look ratio. There's goose egg wrong with FHD (1920×1080) solution, but premium contention is offering 4K or Organic light-emitting diode options (or both). On the other pass, high-RES screens kill electric battery life, patc the Book RS promises busy 17 hours on a full charge.
The MX350 graphics are separate, but information technology's Nvidia's entry-level product for laptops. Put on't expect to run games at max settings happening the Porsche Design Genus Acer Book RS, simply IT should be able to deal low or midrange settings.
The Book RS is also nearly adorably square away offering two USB-A ports and antimonopoly one USB-C (Thunderbolt). I would understand retaining one of the older form factor, but why only cardinal of the latest generation? That one-man Bolt port may find itself working overtime to run an external display operating room 2, connect to rapid external storage, or perhaps practice a third-party USB-C charger—the Book RS appears to come with a quaint barrel charging port as well.
Acer The Porsche Design Acer Book RS sticks to a traditional clamshell forg factor (its predecessor was a swanky sofa bed), and even much longstanding gun barrel charge port and USB-A ports (on with one Thunderbolt).
At the same time, the Book RS has, perchance sagely, non tried to accomplish quite as much as its predecessor promised. The original Porsche Design Book One, which debuted at Mobile World Congress in 2017, seemed determined to upstage what was then the all but exotic laptop computer available (and definitely peerless of the most expensive), Microsoft's Surface Volume. Care the Surface Book, the Book One offered a detachable display, and it also had a very palatial, gearlike 360-degree hinge that made the Surface Book's own lingulate, not-convertible spine appear clunky.
Given the limitations of laptop computer applied science at the prison term, notwithstandin, the Porsche Design Christian Bible One's actual performance didn't fulfill the flavour (or excuse its very high price). We hope to see the Porsche Design Acer Book RS regain its family's accolade if we have a chance to review it.
